Description:

Synopsis

On 11 January 2026, the pilot of the Z 142 aircraft, together with another person on board (hereinafter the “passenger”), was conducting a VFR flight to LKSZ. After landing, the pilot taxied to the aircraft refuelling station with the intention of refuelling the aircraft. Z 43 aircraft was parked at the aircraft refuelling station. Its crew wanted to drive away from the refuelling station. The pilot of Z 142 was cooling the engine, and the crew agreed that the passenger would get out and go to the pilot of Z 43 to marshal him during taxiing. Having opened the cockpit door, the passenger stepped out onto the right-hand wing of the aircraft – the walkway. He probably slipped and fell in front of the wing because of the drifted and icy snow on the walkway. While the passenger was falling down, his left hand came into contact with the rotating propeller. The pilot immediately cut off the engine, got out of the aircraft, called for help, and, together with those present, administered first aid to the injured passenger and contacted the emergency medical service.

The passenger was airlifted to hospital by an air ambulance helicopter with a serious injury to his left arm.

A Czech Police patrol arrived at LKSZ. In compliance with Article 2(1) of Regulation (EU) No. 996/2010, the incident has been classified as a serious incident, taking into account the circumstances of its occurrence.

Cause of the serious incident

The serious incident and the passenger’s injury were caused by the passenger slipping when stepping out of the cockpit onto the aircraft wing whilst the engine was running, and subsequently falling into the rotating propeller.
